Dear Parents,

I am writing this letter to you with a heavy heart. After much thought and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to leave the community and escape to a place where I can experience true freedom.

As you know, the community we live in is very controlled and restrictive. While some people may find comfort in this kind of structure, I have always felt that something was missing. When I was chosen to be the Receiver of Memory, I finally understood what that missing piece was.

Through my training with the Giver, I have learned about a world that existed before Sameness, a world with color, music, and love. I have also learned about the sacrifices that were made to create our community, and the terrible things that continue to happen in order to maintain it.

I cannot continue to live in a place where I must sacrifice my individuality and my ability to feel true emotions. I am leaving now, and I cannot say when or if I will return. Please do not try to find me or bring me back, as it will only put us all in danger.

I hope that someday you will understand why I had to leave. I love you all and will miss you deeply, but I know that this is the right decision for me.

Sincerely,
Jonas
