Length= x

Breadth= y

2(x+y)= 42

x+y= 42/2= 21 (Let it be the first equation)

Perimeter of the triangle= 36 cm

x+y+2y-3= 36 cm (Let it be the second equation)

Substitute equation 1 in 2.

x+y+2y-3= 36

⇒ 21+2y-3= 36

2y= 36-21+3

2y= 18

y= 18/2

y= 9

x+y= 21

x+9= 21

x= 21-9

x= 12

∴ the values of x and y are 12 and 9 respectively.
