Given

2a-5b= -19 (equation1)

3a+5b = 9 (equation2)

now add both equation 1 and equation 2

2a-5b=-19

3a+5b= 9

------------------

5a = -10 (as +5b and -5b get canceled)

5a = -10

a = -2

(substitute in equation 2 or in equation 1)

3(-2)+ 5b= 9

-6 +5b =9

5b = 9+6

5b = 15

b= 3

therefore

a= -2

b= 3

verification:

2(-2)-5(3) = -19

-19 = -19

hence verified.

Answer:

a=-2

b=3

Explanation:

Solve the system of equations.

2a -5b = -19

3a + 5b = 9

Add the two equations together.

2a -5b = -19

3a + 5b = 9

------------------------

5a = -10

Divide by 5

5a/5 = -10/5

a = -2

Now we can find b

2a-5b = -19

2(-2) -5b = -19

-4 -5b = -19

Add 4 to each side

-5b = -15

Divide by -5

b = 3

a=-2

b=3
