Another visual way to think of this is with Number Lines.

On a number line, when you multiply by a larger absolute value the numbers get bigger and go farther away from 0. So, taking a negative and multiplying it by a positive makes it MORE negative, as opposed to multiplying it by negative and then it reflects the number line,
