Since all the fractions have a common denominator of 3, you can multiply both sides by 3 to get rid of the denominator. (Make sure you distribute)


(7)/(3)x+(1)/(3)x=1+(5)/(3)x


3((7)/(3)x+(1)/(3)x)=3(1+(5)/(3)x )

7x + x = 3 + 5x

8x = 3 + 5x

8x - 5x = 3 + 5x - 5x

3x = 3

x = 3/3

x = 1
