A predicate adjective is an adjective complement whereas a predicate nominative is a noun complement. Complements usually follow a direct object and modify that object.

Examples of predicate adjective can be: "The door is brown". (subj: door, pred adj: brown). Examples of predicate noun can be: "Jerry is my brother". (subj: Jerry, pred noun: brother)
