Mr. Gengel wants to make a shelf with boards that are 1 1/3 feet long. If he has an 18 foot board, how many pieces can he cut from the big board?

13 pieces because 18 divided by one and one third is 13 and 1/2. Since you can have half a shelf, you have to take only the whole numbers.

18 ft* (1 piece/ 1 1/3 ft)= 13.5 pieces.

Mr. Gengel can only cut 13 pieces from the big board (because we don't have half a piece)~
