Out of 5200 students of a school only 80% passed. Find how many students failed. I gave it a try and it took me a while. I thought should be 4160 students failed. It does not seem reasonable. Am I right?

I gave it a try and it took me a while. I thought should be 4160 students failed. It does not seem reasonable. Am I right? Am I wrong?

Plz explain me the answer w/ work and tell me if I am wrong or right!

you are close but you got the ones who passed,but not the ones who failed I divided 80/100×5200/1 =4160 you subtract that from the total 5200 which is 1040 :-| 1040 had failed

You were so close.
You found 80% of 5200 students, but that is the percentage of the students who passed. Since 80% of the students passed, 20% students should be ones who failed.

20% = 0.2
Therefore, 5200 x 0.2 = 1040

1040 students failed. :)
