You said that 12 more than (2x) is 6 less than (3x).

2x + 12 = 3x - 6

Subtract 2x from each side :

12 = x - 6

Add 6 to each side:

x = 18

Check:

2x = 36
12 more than that is 48 .

3x = 54
6 less than that is 48 .

48 = 48 .
