Look at the graph shown:

Which equation best represents the line?

y=3x+3

y=1/2x-3

y=1/2x+3

y=3x + 1/2

Pick two points. For example, (0,3) and (2,4)

First, find the slope:

\text{Slope } = \frac{ y_2 - y_1 } { x_2 - x_1 } = ( 4 - 3)/( 2 - 0)=\boxed{\bf{ ( 1)/( 2)}}

The slope is 1/2.

Now we have this much of the equation:

y = 1/2x + b

Plug in the point (0,3) to find the value of b

3 = (1/2)(0) + b
b = 3

Your final equation is y = 1/2x + 3.
