We know that the diagram shows 3/4 of a fraction strip shaded.

Now, if Mary erases some of the shadings to show 5/8, that means she also added 4 more rectangles to have 8, then she shaded 5 of them.

Part A. She divided it by 3/4.


((3)/(4))/((3)/(4))=1

So, at this point, she got the whole unit without divisions.
