Multiply the x and -3 by 5 to get 5x and -15
5x-15+2x=41
then combine like terms 5x+2x to get 7x
7x-15=41
then add 15 to both sides to get he x alone
7x=56
then divide by 56 by 7 to get 1x
x=8

Use a(b-c) = ab - ac

5(x-3) + 2x = 41
5x - 15 + 2x = 41
7x - 15 = 41
7x = 56

x = 8
