The area of a trapezoid is given by the formula

A=(a+b)/(2)h

where a and b are the bases, and h is the height.

Therefore, in our case,

\begin{gathered} a=50,b=150,h=40 \\ \Rightarrow A=((50+150))/(2)\cdot40=(200)/(2)\cdot40=100\cdot40=4000 \\ \Rightarrow A=4000ft^2 \end{gathered}

The area is equal to 4000ft^2

Finally, divide the total area by the surface one can cover with one bag of fertilizer, as shown below

(4000)/(2400)=(5)/(3)\approx1.6666\ldots\approx2

Therefore, once we have rounded it up, the answer is 2 bags.
