How do you do equations on both sides.

hello , to do equation on bother sides; these are the steps i use personally
e.g.
5x-4=2x+14
you would subtract 2x from both sides so it will simply to...
3x-4=14 (do the opposite to the 4 in this case it is subtract and the opposite is add so you would add 4 to the 14 as following)
3x=14+4
3x=18
(divide 18 by 3 )
x=6
hope this helps it is quite confusing but once you practise a few questions you will get the hang of it.
