Are the roles in relationships (marriages, spifically) generally equal, or is a power struggle inevitable. Explain in a paragraph or in sentences please

I don't see how this is an either-or situation.
I think that power struggle is possible to avoid, if both partners accept that they can't dominate the other. But I also think that this requires work and constant re-negotiation, so it's not "generally" that relationships are equal - but they can be.
