I digress, x/9=1, to eliminate the x we must remove the nearest non-variable first(9) to do that, we do the opposite of the task the equation requests, this one requests we divide x by 9. multiple 9 on both sides to remove it.

you are going to use inverse of operations to get x on a side by itself. In this case all you need to do is multiply each side by 9, to cancel out the 9 on the side with the x. Once you do that you get x=9
