−x2+x+52=10

Subtract 10 from both sides.

−x2+x+52−10=10−10

−x2+x+42=0

Factor left side of equation.

(−x−6)(x−7)=0

Set factors equal to 0.

−x−6=0 or x−7=0

x=−6
or
x=7

52 - x^2 + x = 10
52 + x = 10 + x^2
52 = x^2 - x + 10
x^2 - x - 42 = 0

x^2 -7x + 6x - 42 =0
x(x-7) + 6(x-7) = 0
(x-7)(x+6) = 0

x = 7
x = -6
