7+x+5-3=16-8 \\ \\ 7 + x + - 5 - 3 = 16 + - 8 \\ \\ (x) + (7 + 5 + - 3 ) = ( 16 + - 8 ) \\ \\ x + 9 = 8 \\ \\ x + 9 - 9 = 8 - 9 \\ \\ \huge{\boxed{ x = -1}}

This problem is tough until you clean it up so you can see what's going on.

On the left side, (7 + 5 - 3) = 9 . So the left side is x + 9 .

On the right side, (16 - 8) = 8.

So the equation is really x + 9 = 8

Subtract 9 from each side: x = -1
