As far as I know, Don Quixote is a picaresque character in the universal literature. The novel is a satire of the Spanish society in those times.

Answer: Literary satire

Explanation: The picaresque novel emerged as a criticism on the one hand of the degraded institutions of imperial Spain and on the other of the idealizing narratives of the Renaissance: epics, books of chivalry, sentimental novel and pastoral novel. The strong contrast of values between the different social estates of the Spain of the time generated, as an ironic response, some so called "antinovels" of an antiheroic nature, showing the sordid of the historical moment: the claims of the impoverished nobles, the miserable disinherited, the false religious and the marginalized converts.
