The House of Representatives approved NAFTA on November 17, 1993, and the Senate voted for approval on November 20. It was signed into law by President Clinton on December 8, 1993, and took effect on January 1, 1994.

NAFTA was signed on 17th December 1992 by all three members (Mexico, US, Canada) in their respective capitals and it came to power on January 1, 1994.
