The literary work where a tragic hero first appears is d)Oedipus Rex. This piece is an example of classical tragedy, as Oedipus is given a prophecy which he cannot escape: that he will kill his father and marries his mother. He tries his best to make sure this does not happen, but it ends up happening anyways, thus making him a tragic hero. However, his own mistakes are also regarded as being factors to his downfall.
