Sir Edmund Andros was an English colonial administrator in North America and was the governor of the Dominion of New England during most of its three-year existence. He was so unpopular in New England because he is remembered for: (1) inhibiting representative government, (2) intruding in colonial customs, and (3) his domineering and officious behavior.
