5x + 2y = 16 ⇒ 5x + 2y = 16
x + 3y = 12 ⇒ 5x + 15y = 180
-13y = -164
-13 -13
y = 12 8/13
5x + 2(12 8/13) = 16
5x + 25 3/13 = 16
-25 3/13 -25 3/13
5x = -9 3/13
5 5
x = -1 11/13
(x, y) = (-1 11/13, 12 8/13)
B. (3, 2)
