Answer:

two sandwiches and 3 apple are in each medium sack lunch that Cathy buys

Steps:

Given:

  • each water costs $1
  • each apple costs $1
  • each sandwich costs $s

Amy buys : 8 sandwiches and 12 waters ---> 8s + 12

Bob buys : 8 ( 1 sandwich, 1 water, and 1 apple ) ---> 8(s + 2)

Cathy buys : 4 ( 1 sandwich, 1 apple ) ---> 4(2s + 3)

Answer:

She buys two sandwiches and 3 apple.

Reminder: she doesn't buy water.

Here we can see she buys 4 medium sack lunches, the question asked for only 1 medium so we have to concentrate the things in the bracket -- ( 2s + 3 ) ............we know s is for sandwich and the 2 at the front tells she buys 2 sandwich and +3 --- this 3 cant be of water's and definitely should be of apple as this medium does not include water. Its more of understanding the question rather doing work.
