They use the sun to make food (glucose) and the by product of oxygen. They are then used by other animals to live.

Plants and algae use sunlight to make food. They do this with the process of photosynthesis, and they create excess oxygen as a waste product. The oxygen is vital for other living organisms to survive and perform their daily functions.
