One good way to remember this is with the acronym MRS GREN;
M
ovement - The organism can move in some way (plants move as they grow)
R
eproduction - Creating new copies of this organism
S
ensitivity - A response to a change in the environment around the organism
G
rowth - The ability to create new structures / cells
R
espiration - The ability to break down food to get energy
E
xcretion - The organism creates waste which is disposed of
N
utrition - The organism has the ability to eat food
