This achievement helped him landed the achievement as Vice president of Equipment division in a company called Memorex. While working there, he and his team was the first one that introduced disk drives in the market place.

In 1979, he founded a company called Shugart Associates which eventually renamed into Seagate technologies. This company eventually became largest independent manufacturer of disk drives in the world.
