4. Each year, Carl organizes a spring car wash fundraiser for "Carl Cares for Cats". This year
he washed 14 fewer cars than during last year's car wash. In total, he washed 96 cars
during both car washes. How many cars did he wash during last year's car wash?

Explanation:

Let the number of cars washed last year be denoted as x.

This year, he washed 14 fewer cars than during last year's car wash. This will be denoted as x-14.

We can then represent them in an equation as:

x + (x - 14) = 96

2x - 14 = 96

2x = 96 + 14

2x = 110

x = 110/2

x = 55

Therefore, he washed 55 cars this year
