Hi there,
-109+9x=35+x
you can start by subtracting x from both sides
-109+9x-x=35+x-x
-109+8x=35
Now we add 109 to both side
-109+109+8x=35+109
8x=144
Divide both sides by 8
8x/8=144/8
x=18
Now we check the solution
We plug it back to the initial equation
-109+9(18)=35+(18) ?? we ask is this true (left equal to right)
well we just carry the calculations and see
-109+162=53
53=53 it checks out
