How do fossils indicate that the continents have moved with time

There may be same fossils in 2 continents and scientists probably assume that those 2 continents were connected before

The fossils of certain animal and plant species have been found on different continents separated by thousands of miles of ocean.  For example, many species seem to have fossils on both the East South American and West African coasts.  The only logical explanation for this would be that the two coasts were, at one point, touching.  The animals and plants died and left fossils, the continents moved over millions of years, and now we see those fossils separated by the oceans.
