so what you want to do here is create a quick equation from the given information. the quotient of a number and 2 is the same as the difference of the number doubled and 3. these are easiest if you break them up into pieces.

"the quotient" ... always indicates division
"of a number and 2" ... x/2
"is the same as" ... equals
"the difference of" ... always indicates subtraction
"the number doubled and 3" ... 2x - 3

now you just put that together: (x/2) = 2x - 3 is your equation. now you just have to solve it.

(x/2) = 2x - 3 ... multiply both sides by 2 to cancel out your fraction
x = 2(2x - 3) ... distribute the 2 to the inside of parentheses
