The sum of 2 consecutive odd numbers is 36. Write an equation to represent this problem. Then find the two numbers. Smaller Number: 1 Larger Number: :: X-1 :: X :: X+1 H: X+2 :: 2 :: 36 :: 21 :: 9 * 19 11 :: 15 ** 17

Let x represent the smaller odd number.

The difference between 2 consecutive odd numbers is 2

This means that the larger odd number would be x + 2

Given that the sum of the two consecutive odd numbers is 36, it means that

\begin{gathered} x\text{ + x + 2 = 36} \\ 2x\text{ + 2 = 36} \\ 2x\text{ = 36 - 2} \\ 2x\text{ = 34} \\ x\text{ = }(34)/(2) \\ x\text{ = 17} \end{gathered}

Therefore,

the small odd number is 17

the larger odd number is 17 + 2 = 19
