A souk or souq is found in many cities in north Africa, and southwest Asia. They are open-air commercial quarter or marketplace where merchants can sell their goods out of a storefront or caravan!

ANSWER: Souks are marketplace or market in Arabian countries. It is also called Souq. In Persia, a souk is called Bazaar and in Malta it is called as Suq or Monti. The concept originated in the 6th century BCE and were used to be present only outside the city walls.
