she substract 18 from 14 she supposed to subtract 14 from 18

If a line passes through two points ( a, b ) & ( c, d )

Then slope of this line will be =
((d-b)/(c-a))

Now we come to the question.

a student finds the slope of a line passing through ( 14, 1 ) and ( 18, 17 ) as

slope =
((1 - 17)/(18-14))

This formula is not the form of
((d-b)/(c-a))

Accurate answer should be

slope =
((1-17)/(14-18))

So mistake was in denominator.
