x + 2 = 3x + 8
(Subtract 8 over)

x - 6 = 3x
(Commutative property, x on the left is easier to understand usually)

3x = x - 6
(Subtract x over)

2x = 6
(Divide both sides by 2)

x = 3

x+2=3x+8
Subtract 3x from both sides
x+2−3x=3x+83x2x+2=8
Subtract 2 from both sides
-2x+2-2=8-2
-2x=6
Then divide both sides by -2
You get x= -3
