the width of the rectangle is 18 feet (and the length is 22 ft)

Let the length be l and width be w.
l = w + 4
Area = length x width
396 = (w + 4)w
w² + 4w - 396 = 0
w = 18, w = -22
Negative width not possible so answer discarded.
Width = 18 feet.
