Martin has 2 4/5 quarts of juice. He pours the same amount of juice into 2 bottles. How much does he pour into each bottle? Can you show this by step by step?

Converting the mixed fraction into an improper fraction we get:

2(4)/(5)=(10)/(5)+(4)/(5)=(14)/(5).

Side note:

Recall that:

((a)/(b))/(c)=((a)/(b))/((c)/(1))=(1\cdot a)/(c\cdot b)\text{.}

Example:

((5)/(6))/(7)=((5)/(6))/((7)/(1))=(1\cdot5)/(7\cdot6)=(5)/(42)\text{.}

End of note.

Dividing by 2 we get:

((14)/(5))/(2)=(14)/(2\cdot5)=(2\cdot7)/(2\cdot5)=(7)/(5)\text{.}

Therefore Martin pours

(7)/(5)\text{quarts}

of juice into each bottle.

Answer:

(7)/(5)\text{quarts}
