Can someone explain how to do this? Thank you!

Explanation:

So, first you do the parentheses, 5(x+2), which comes out to 5x+10, so the equation becomes 5x+10=3x-8. Then, subtract 3x from both sides to get the x's all on one side. (5x-3x)+10=(3x-3x)-8 which equals 2x+10=-8. After that, subtract 10 from both sides to get the numbers all on one side. 2x+(10-10)=(-8-10) which equals 2x=-18. Then, you divide by 2 to get what x equals. (2x/2)=(-18/2) which makes x=-9.

5(x+2)=3x-8

5x+10=3x-8

2x+10=-8

2x=-18

x=-9
