Two lines AB and CD are given where AB is 2.5 units long and CD is 3.25 units long.

SOLUTION

The point G is collinear to the line CD and is between C and D. This can be seen in the image below:

The length of line DG is twice the length of line CG. This means that if CG is x units long, then:


DG=2x

Add the lengths of DG and CG and we will get the length of CD. Therefore:


\begin{gathered} DG+CG=CD \\ \therefore \\ 2x+x=3.25 \\ 3x=3.25 \\ x=(3.25)/(3) \\ x=1(1)/(12) \end{gathered}

Therefore, the length of CG will be:


\overline{CG}=1(1)/(12)\text{ units}
