Find the value of y in the sequence 2, 8, 3y +5,...

1. If the sequence was arithmetic
2. If the sequence was geometric

1. If the sequence is arithmetic to find the needed value we have to know the common difference which is 6.
Then we have the
3y+ 5 = 14 y = 3term = 14
2. If the sequence was geometric we had to know the common ratio = 8/2 = 4
So the answer is :

3y + 5 = 32 3y = 27 y = 9
