The amplitude of the oscillation is the maximum displacement of the slinky from its equilibrium position.

Now, this amplitude is exactly the same as the initial distance Margaret pulled the slinky from the equilibrium position. In other words, we'd never find slinky 25 inches ( or greater) from the equilibrium position if Margaret initially pulled it only 24 inches away.

The period is defined as the time required for one oscillation.

We are already told that it takes 1 second for the slinky to have one oscillation. Therefore, the period of the slinky is 1 second.
