Athena disguise Odysseus before he sees Eumaeus by turning him into and old man.

Athena, who was the the goddess of wisdom, told Odysseus that it was a wise idea that he goes to Ithaca wearing a disguise. Consequently, she cloaked Odysseus in a beggar disguise and made him look really old and ragged. Furthermore, his face was covered in a graying beard to create the total appearance of an old man.
