Before Charley’s first battle, he writes a letter to his mother stating that he is a man (even though he’s still a boy). Why do you think he views himself a man? Include an example from the text to support your answer.

Charley thinks of himself as a man because he believes that by him going to battle he has become a man rather than a mere boy.
