First, you add 5 to the answer given, then you would end up with the value of X, x= 5.4 (the answer to two decimal places is 5.40)

This is basically doing the opposite of what the number's sign is. for example:

x+7=14, you would subtract 7 from the answer (14) and you would find the variable (x) that would mean that x=7.

This also applies for more complex equations like:

y x 12= 24

You can find the answer to this by dividing 24 (the answer given) by 12, which gives you 2. That would mean y=2

You can also check yourself with these equations by replacing the answer you got for the variable (the letter in the equation)

2 (y) x 12 = 24 y=2
5.4 (x) - 5 =0.4 x=5
