(6) He also wants to have $100 spending cash on the trip. He decides to save an extra $10 a week. To do this he changes his original equation as follows: 25w+30+10w=250+100, where w is the number of weeks spent saving. Will nine weeks be enough time now? Show your calculations and Explain.

I will work on the board (Answer tab), please feel free to ask any moment if you see something unexpected.

Do you see my messages here? Cool, let's solve the problem, then.

Thanks for your patience!

Elprofana, this is the solution:

25w + 30 + 10w = 250 + 100

35w + 30 = 350

Subtracting 30 at both sides:

35w + 30 - 30 = 350 - 30

35w = 320

Dividing by 35 at both sides:

35w/35 = 320/35

w = 9.1429

Calculating if 9.14 is enough for saving additional $ 100 for cash expenses

Do you have the original formula?

How can we compare then?

OK

Yes, it is enough. The student or the man who wants to travel needs to save 9.1429 weeks for saving the total cost of the trip (350).

We can consider that 9.1429 can be rounded to 9.

Do you understand the solution?

If you don’t need any further explanation, I’ll go ahead and end our session. Feel free to let me know how I did by rating our session - all feedback is welcome and appreciated. Thanks for coming today!
