a) 2h+d=420. b) h+d=300. Subtract b) from a). h+0=120 so h=120. You sold 120 hamburgers. And so you must have sold 180 hotdogs.

Answer:

Number of hamburgers = 120

Number of hotdogs = 180

Explanation:

A concession stand sells hamburgers (h) for $2 and hotdogs (d) for $1.

On Friday night they sold a total of 300 hamburgers and hotdogs and made $420.

We have to find the numbers of hamburgers and hotdogs.

Now we have to form the equations

h + d = 300------(1)

2h + 1d = 420-------(2)

By subtracting equation 2 from 1.

2h + d - h - d = 420 - 300

h = 120

and from equation 1

d + 120 = 300

d = 300 - 120 = 180

Therefore total 120 hamburgers and 180 hotdogs were sold.
