The width of a rectangle is 3 less than twice the length ,x. if the area of the rectangle is 43 square feet,

w = 2L - 3

43 = L × ( 2L - 3 )
43 = 2L^2 - 3L
2L^2 - 3L - 43 = 0
L = 5.447 , L = - 3.9471

w = 2(5.447) - 3
w = 7.894
