Sweet t noticed the ratio of long boards to short boards was 1:4. If there were 35 surfboards at the beach, how many were short boards? Guys thanks for answering my questions!! :) :p

long/short = 1/4
short = ...
L/s = 1/4
L+s = 35
(L+s)/(1+4) = 35/5 = 7
L/1 = 7 --> L = 7
s/4 = 7 --> s = 28 (28 shorts)

I believe the answer is 28 short boards
