The figure is composed by 2 rectangles of height: 2 m and width: 1 m, and 1 rectangle of height: 4m and width: 5 m.

The area of a rectangle is computed as follows:

A = width*height

The area of the smaller rectangles are:

A1 = 2*1 = 2 square meters

The area of the bigger rectangle is:

A2 = 5*4 = 20 square meters

Then, the area of the composite figure is:

2A1 + A2 = 2*2 + 20 = 24 square meters
