How is Athenian democracy different from modern American democracy?

Athens: Only men who owned land were allowed to vote.


U.S: all people over the age of 18 are allowed to vote.

It was direct democracy where the citizens met in fortnightly assembly and decided on issues which the council implemented. Modern Democracy is representative democracy, where elected representatives carry out the functions of governance.
